Prospector Remembered as a Colourful Good-Hearted Character
J.P. Ross by Jane Gaffin.

 

John Peter Ross (J.P.) , 60, died suddenly in Whitehorse, Yukon in early May 2008.

J.P. was a long-time member of the Yukon Prospectors' Association and most recently served as vice-president. In 1995 he was recognized as Prospector of the Year.

Peter will be missed by his many friends and acquaintances throughout the Yukon and beyond.

2007 Awards Lori Walton - Prospector of the Year, Bruce Patnode - Honour Roll, Dutch Van Tassell - Hall of Fame

Bruce Patnode, 60, died suddenly in Parksville BC on September 14th, 2007. Bruce was a former president of the Yukon Prospectors Association and served for many years. One of his many dreams came to fruition with the unveiling of the Prospector Statue on Main Street, Whitehorse in September 1992. Bruce was inducted to the Prospectors' Honour Roll in November 2007.

The objectives of the Association are:

To establish a central office of the Association at the City of Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory.

To promote a fraternal feeling and cordial business relations among it's members; and generally to do such acts and things as shall be for the benefit of it's members and the mining industry of the Yukon Territory.

To promote the consideration and discussion of questions affecting the prospectors and grub-stakers and to promote matters of interest to members.

To give legislative and other public bodies facilities for conferring with and ascertaining the views of persons engaged in prospecting.

To originate and recommend improvements in the law and to support or oppose alteration therein, and for the purposes aforesaid to petition the Governments and take such other steps and proceedings as may be deemed expedient.
