Operators are experienced in a wide variety of terrains. The excavator is rubber tracked and
is one metre wide. Rubber tracks provide a good grip on rocky
surfaces.
The maximum digging depth is 2 - 2.5
metres. The depth reached depends on the ground slope, ground
stability, and orientation of the machine. It is not possible
to dig frozen ground although it will break through
lightly frozen ground.
The excavator weighs 3,200 lbs. (1,452
kg) and is dismantled in 4 pieces, the largest being
1,215 lbs (551 kg).
The equipment is moved with a helicopter
or fixed-wing aircraft.
Helicopters and number of loads:
Bell Jet Ranger (206B) - 4 loads, Bell Long Ranger (206LR)
- 4 loads, Hughes 500D - 5 loads, Bell 407 - 2 loads, Astar
350 BA - 3 loads.
For the Bell 407 lift 1 the tracks
and body stay together and the weight is 2,200 lbs. (989
kg). Lift
2 consists of the arm and lifting frame, and a net
load containing the ROPS canopy, fuel and fuel tank, oil,
support gear, tools, counter
weights
etc.
Fixed-wing: Shorts Skyvan - 1 load, the ROPS canopy is removed.

The time for one person to assemble or disassemble the machine and prepare loads
is about 6 hours. Times vary depending on terrain and conditions
and decrease if additional personnel are available.

Applications: excavation and reclamation of
trenches and test pits, side-hill trenches, drill pads, ATV trails for access to drill
pads and work areas, camp jobs.

The excavator has a custom-built angle
blade and cleanup bucket. The blade increases stability when
digging and travelling and assists in safe operation on sloping
ground. The angle blade is used when working on pads, side-hill trenches, reclamation and
trails on sloping ground.
The excavator has a rollover canopy
and canvas cab covers.
The excavator is equipped with slings and fittings for helicopter transport and
comes complete with all equipment and tools. Hookup and go.
Hydraulic oil and fuel are drained
into containers prior to flight.
The excavator and personnel are charged
at a daily rate.
Mobilization and demobilization are
charged at a daily and kilometre rate.
Scheduling of work is subject to the
availability of equipment and personnel. Stewart Basin is
fully insured.
